Former SCO Angers president, Said Chabane, finds himself embroiled in legal difficulties. This comes after his recent sentencing to two years in prison – with one year suspended – for sexual assault. Chabane is also tangled in allegations of illegal sports agent activity and serious money laundering.
Three other men, deemed by investigators as fake agents, are part of the case. The accusation leveled against them constitutes the misuse of Chabane's backing at SCO to facilitate transfers without the necessary diplomas from the French Football Federation (FFF).
The Public Prosecutor's Office in Bobigny suggests an 18-month suspended sentence for Chabane. His defense lawyer, Bernard Benaiem, believes this proposed penalty is unwarranted.
Misgivings Regarding Inequity in French Football
Maître Benaiem highlights inconsistencies in French football relating to the unlawful practice of the sports agent profession. He points out that Fayza Lamari, mother of Kylian Mbappé, allegedly operates unlawfully as a sports agent at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Benaiem puts forth the question: Why does Lamari, unregistered as an agent with the FFF, not encounter the same repercussions? This query has the potential to cause ripples of controversy in France, with any subsequent reactions from Lamari and the Mbappé family being potentially explosive.
