SUSA B-06 Wins State Open Cup Title


In the Boys U-13 State Open Cup final Long Island’s SUSA B-06 team defeated Downtown United of Manhattan 1-0. The match was played on June 1 at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y.

Owen Caraftis scored the games only goal. Keeper Kyle Rose earned the clean sheet.

“This championship game came down to one chance and we took it,” said Eddie Hackett, SUSA’s coach.

SUSA will now represent Eastern New York at the Regionals from June 28 to July 4 in Charleston, West Virginia, as part of the National Championship Series.

In addition, the new state champions also received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award, as determined by the game officials. The award’s namesake founded the Long Island Junior Soccer League’s Sportsmanship Program in 1980.
