It was a big week for three Skyline Conference soccer players from Long Island who received Player of the Week honors.
Joseph Mesoraca of Oceanside, a junior center back at Mount Saint Mary, was named the Skyline men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week. He anchored the Knights’ defensive in a 5-1 win over Yeshiva.
Skyline women’s soccer honors went to Rebecca Colgan of Valley Stream who was named the Offensive Player of the Week.
The sophomore forward at Purchase College collected a pair of hat tricks and game-winning goals for the Panthers in non-conference action. In a win over Medgar Evers, she scored three goals in the game’s first three minutes and had two assists. She then scored all three goals in a 3-1 win over Brooklyn College.
Farmingdale State’s Daniella Ford was named the Skyline Defensive Player of the Week. The senior keeper from Elmont made seven saves in a scoreless draw against Scranton. She lowered her season’s goals-against average to 0.35 and has a .946 save percentage. This is her second Player of the Week honor this season.
Skyline Conference Honor Roll
Farmingdale State sophomore striker Chris Schmidt of Massapequa collected a brace at Brooklyn College midweek.
Maritime sophomore midfielder Lawrence Castello of Hauppauge posted one goal in each of the Privateers’ two games.
Old Westbury sophomore keeper James Perciballi of Elmont posted an .818 save percentage and 0.90 goals-against average in a 1-0-1 stint for the Panthers.
Old Westbury freshman striker Mia Almonte of Freeport had a three-goal week over two matches for the Panthers, while her classmate Yakeline Umanzor of Brentwood added 135 minutes of shutout soccer in the Old Westbury goal.
