It was a big week for Sky Blue FC rookie Paige Monaghan who has been named NWSL Rookie of the Week for Week 18.
The New Jersey native picked a perfect time to score the first two goals of her career in a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Red Stars. Her first goal came in the 71st minute off of a feed from Carli Lloyd. Goal number two came in stoppage time as she lifted a shot over Red Stars keeper and World Cup Champion Alyssa Naeher.
The win was Sky Blue’s third off the season and also snapped Chicago’s five-game winning streak. Monaghan also started in Sky Blue’s 1-1 draw with Reign FC that was played at Red Bull Arena in front of a team-record crowd of 9,415.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
