The Hofstra women’s soccer team continued the strong start to its season with a 1-0 win over Columbia Sunday at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
While the Pride dominated the Lions on the stat sheet, the match remained scoreless as the game clock moved past the 70 minute mark. Noriana Radwan would provide all the offense her team would need as her shot from about 25 yards out would beat Columbia’s netminder Sophie Whitehouse. Jill Mulholland (Levittown, MacArthur H.S.) was credited with an assist on Radwan’s goal.
Radwan lead the Pride with six shots (three on goal) while Mulholland had four shots (two on goal) and Kristin Desmond (East Northport, Northport H.S.) and Brianna Doran (Lindenhurst, Lindenhurst H.S.) had three shots a piece. The goalkeeper duties against Columbia were split between Ashley Wilson (Glen Cove, North Shore H.S.) and Friederike Mehring.
Wilson started, playing the first half and did not record a save. Mehring played the second 45 and made four saves.
Hofstra outshot Columbia 20-10 (on goal, eight and four respectively) and had seven corner kicks to the Lions’ three.
