Two goals from Dana Poetzsch led the Molloy Women’s Soccer Team to a 4-0 win over Queens College.
The brace by Poetzsch of Hicksville was one of several big efforts for the Lions by several Long Islanders. Junior Amanda Milazzo (Setauket) and senior Samantha Mendes (Mineola) had a goal each and freshman goalkeeper Jackie Carty (East Islip) made seven saves to record her second shutout of the season.
With the win, Molloy improved to 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
The Lions opened the scoring in the 17th minute on a goal from Milazzo. The visitors added another tally in the 25th minute. Poetzsch won the ball, made a move around a defender, and fired the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Molloy would increase its lead to 3-0 in the opening minute of the second half after Poetzsch converted a penalty kick. Mendez scored her first goal of the season to bring the Lions’ lead to 4-0 in the 75th minute.
Despite the lopsided scoreboard, Queens outshot Molloy 18-11.
