With the prospect of penalty kicks looming, freshman Kendra Oldroyd grabbed possession of a loose ball and beat her defender to the end line. There, she found O’Connor with a pass at the top of the six-yard box. The Ward Melville graduate would send a left-footed shot to the far post to give the Pioneers the win.
LIU Post (13-2-3) will now head to Connecticut to face Bridgeport in the ECC finals on Friday. Game time is 6 p.m.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, LIU Post would level the match in the 54th minute. Junior Julia Duffy of Oceanside took a pass from O’Connor at the left edge of the penalty area and sent a curling right-footed shot to the right post to make it 1-1.
The Pioneers outshot the Mavericks, 12-9 on the day and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Senior Hillevi Eklow made three saves to earn the win in goal, the 41st of her career.
