Martinez Leads Farmingdale State To Skyline Title

In what has been a common occurrence for more than a decade, Farmingdale State’s women’s soccer team are Skyline Conference Champions.

On Saturday, the Rams defeated Manhattanville 5-0 to win its fourth straight title and 12th crown over the past 13 years. Farmingdale State also earns the conference’s automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Divison III Women’s Soccer Championship.

FSC senior midfielder Edasia Martinez (Brentwood, who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Championship, had a hat-trick in the win over Manhattanville. She also had a goal in the Rams 6-1 win over Sarah Lawrence in the conference semi-finals.

Following Martinez’s first goal in the 18th minute, Farmingdale State would dominate the match but was unable to extend its lead heading into halftime. Through the first 45 minutes, the Rams outshot Manhattanville 16-2 and did not allow a shot on target.

Ten minutes into the second half, Farmingdale State would double its lead as Julissa Martinez (Brentwood) scored off a through ball by junior midfielder Brittney Starzee (Babylon). Four minutes later, Starzee would score off of a feed from Edasia Martinez to put the Rams up 3-0.

The senior from Brentwood would secure her title game hat-trick with goals in the 77th minute and 79th minute.

FSC did not allow a second-half shot and finished the game with a 30-2 shot advantage over Manhattanville.

The Rams now await word of their First Round opponent for the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship, which will be announced on Monday, November 11, at 1 p.m. on NCAA.com.
