The NCAA Division II men’s and women’s soccer tournaments resume beginning Thursday, with LIU Post and Adelphi resuming their rivalry on the men’s side.
On Thursday, the Pioneers and Panthers meet for the second time this season, but this time several hundred miles from Long Island in Charleston, W. Va., in a match set to kick off at 7 p.m. The two teams met early in the season, playing to a 3-3 draw.
The LIU Post women’s team is also back in action on Friday as it meets Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. Game time is 2 p.m.
The LIU Post men’s side is unbeaten to date with only two draws to go along with the team’s 17 wins. The Pioneers closed the season with an 8-0-1 East Coast Conference record and earned the top-seed in the conference tournament, which it won for the third year in a row.
Graduate forward Lukas Ostermann has been a driving force on the men’s team, leading the Pioneers with 17 goals and 40 points this season.
Adelphi (14-2-2) had another strong campaign in 2017 and lost only once in Northeast-10 Conference play (11-1-1). The Panthers’ offense is led by Andre De Giorgi’s 12 goals with James Thristino chipping in with eight goals.
On the women’s side, the fourth-seeded LIU Post (17-3-1) women’s soccer team will meet No. 2 Mercy in the East Regional final on Friday. The two sides have met twice before where the Pioneers took the first leg, 2-0, but fell to the Mavericks in the ECC Championship Final 3-0.
This fall, sophomore Julia Duffy leads a balanced side where she’s accounted for LIU Post’s 10 of their 54 goals this season. She is tied for the lead in points (23) with junior Andrea Huntzinger who has tallied nine goals and five assists this year.
