Three Long Island-based Division II colleges are garnering attention in the latest United Soccer Coaches polls with several teams moving up the national and regional rankings.
On the men’s side, LIU Post is ranked No. 15 in the September 25 poll, rising 10 spots from the previous week. In the women’s poll, Adelphi is up two spots in this week’s poll and now sits at No. 16.
After losing its season-opening match to Long Island rival Adelphi 2-1, the Pioneers have reeled off five straight wins, including three clean sheets, and during the past week defeated Molloy College 3-0. In the week ahead LIU Post will face Queens College on Wednesday and Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday.
It’s been an impressive start to the season for Adelphi’s women’s team, which has won its first six matches and allowed only two goals. During the past week, the Panthers defeated Bentley University 2-0 and Saint Michael’s College 3-0. This week Adelphi will host Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday and Le Moyne on Saturday.
In the men’s east regional top-10 United Soccer Coaches poll, LIU Post is ranked second, NYIT (5-1-1) sits at No. 9 after being unranked the week before and Adelphi (4-2-1) is ranked No 10.
The women’s east regional top-10 USC poll has Adelphi at No. 2, LIU Post (4-2-0) is ranked No. 7 and NYIT (6-2-0) comes in at No. 8 after being unranked the previous week.
