Kajan’s Brace Leads St. John’s Past Cornell

Zsani Kajan’s two goals were all that St. John’s would need in its 2-0 win over Cornell Saturday afternoon at Belson Stadium. 

With the victory, the Red Storm close out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a record of 3-6-0.

Named to the preseason All-Big East team, it has been a challenging season for Kajan. Following her sophomore campaign when she scored 11 goals, her brace against Cornell boosted her 2019 goal total to four.

Against the Big Red, Kajan opening the scoring in the 44th minute before adding a second goal from the penalty spot in the 69th minute. It was her first multi-goal game of the season and fourth of her career. 

Kajan had a game-high nine shots, five of which were on target. Alex Madden, Sofia Ambrosio, and Kayla Mesaros accounted for the Red Storm’s three other attempts on goal.

In goal, Meredith Reinhardt and Naya Lipkens split time between the pipes for the Red Storm, helping St. John’s to the team’s second clean sheet of the campaign.

The Red Storm returns to action on Saturday, September 28, traveling to Providence, R.I., to open conference play against Providence. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
