Hofstra got its first conference win of the season Saturday with a 3-0 road victory over Charleston at Patriots Point.

It was a dominating performance for the men’s soccer team, which defeated the Cougars and ended the Pride’s modest two-game losing streak. Hofstra is now 3-2-0 (1-1-0 CAA) on the season.

The Pride outshot Charleston 20-10, including 15 shots in the second half, and had six corner kicks to only one for the Cougars.

Despite its strong performance, the game would be scoreless into the 42nd minute. It was then that Adam Savill would covert from the penalty spot to give the Pride its first lead of the game. The goal was the junior midfielder’s first of the season.

Hofstra would extend its lead in the 72nd minute. Frederik Rieper would score his third of the season off assists from Hendrik Hebbeker and Savill.

Six minutes later, Petter Soelberg would cement the victory with his second goal of the season.

Alex Ashton made three saves in goal for the Pride to earn his third clean sheet of the season.

Hofstra will return to action Wednesday night when it hosts Stony Brook in the Long Island Rivalry presented by The Greene Turtle. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
