The Hofstra men’s soccer team is off to a 2-0 start following its 1-0 win on the road over UMBC.
The game’s only goal came in the 57th minute. On the Pride’s sixth corner kick of the match, senior Adam Savill drove the ball into the box where it was flicked on by freshman Stefan Mason. Fellow freshman Frederik Rieper was then able to get his head on the ball to knock it past UMBC keeper Quantrell Jones.
As indicated by the slim one-goal margin of the final score, the match was an evenly-played affair. UMBC outshot Hofstra 12-11 with the Pride getting three of those shots on target versus one for the Retrievers. Hofstra also led in corner kicks 9-7.
Hofstra keeper Alex Ashton stopped the only shot he faced on target to record his second straight clean sheet.
