Four members of the East Meadow Soccer Club were named to the inaugural Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)/United Soccer Coaches All-Conference Teams in the Northeast Conference.
Among the honorees is Mia Asenjo, who was named the Northeast Conference U-15 Player of the Year. Heading into her sophomore year at Holy Trinity High School, Asenjo has also created a name for herself within the Long Island high school soccer community. During the 2017 season, she helped lead Holy Trinity to the CHSAA ‘A’ championship with a 2-1 win over St. Francis Prep. Asenjo scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal with 15 minutes remaining in the title game.
Joining Asenjo on the ECNL U-15 All-Conference Team is East Meadow’s Briana Sayoc, who attends Mepham High School. Other East Meadow players honored by the ECNL include midfielder Kristina Garcia on the U-16 team and defender Selena Fortich on the U-18/U-19 team.
Garcia attends Great Neck South High School and Fortich is a graduate of North Shore High School and will play collegiately at the University of Miami.
Players on each of the Girls ECNL All-Conference Teams along with Players of the Year were chosen through a recommendation and voting process involving representatives from each club in all conferences. All players selected to each age group’s teams are eligible for the Girls ECNL/United Soccer Coaches All-American Team that will be announced in the coming weeks.
“Players that distinguish themselves at the highest level of club soccer deserve to be recognized for their efforts and performances, and we are excited to award these honors to them,” said Christian Lavers, Girls ECNL president. “These exceptional players will continue to make their mark in the Girls ECNL and college soccer for years to come.”
