East Coast Conference Honors Several Locals

Several men’s and women’s soccer players received weekly honors from the East Coast Conference.

Men’s Soccer

• Offensive Player of the Week
Simon-Peter Omooba, New York Tech (Senior, Forward, London, England): Omooba’s four goals against Caldwell was a career-high, matched the most in Division II this season and earned the Bears their first win of 2019. He also assisted on the opening goal of a 3-0 win against Daemen in NYIT’s ECC opener.

• Rookie of the Week
Sergio Peralta, Molloy (Freshman, Goalkeeper, Middle Village): Peralta made 13 saves in the Lions’ 2-1 double-overtime win over Saint Rose.

• Honor Roll
Anthony Cestaro, Molloy (Senior, Midfielder, Massapequa): Cestaro netted two goals, including the game-winner in the 109th minute, in Molloy’s 2-1 win over Saint Rose.

Women’s Soccer

• Offensive Player of the Week
Dana Poetzsch, Molloy (Junior, Midfielder, Hicksville): Poetzsch tallied 13 points on the week. She had two goals, including the game-winner, and one assist in Molloy’s 4-0 victory over Caldwell and a career-high eight points (three goals and two assists) in the team’s win over Lincoln. She was also named the United Soccer Coaches Division II Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.

• Rookie of the Week
Laura Ogando, New York Tech (Freshman, Madrid, Spain): Ogando helped anchor a defense that limited previously unbeaten Daemen to one late goal in a draw. Daemen came into the game ranked sixth in Division II by averaging 4.8 goals per game. 

• Honor Roll
Kelsie Moinzadeh, Molloy (Graduate Student, Forward, Clifton Park, N.Y.): Moinzadeh registered seven points on the week. She netted a goal in the win against Caldwell and tallied a career-high five points (two goals and one assist) against Lincoln.
