This week’s Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week honors have a distinctly Long Island flavor.
Hofstra junior Kristin Desmond of East Northport was named the CAA Player of the Week, while Northeastern junior goalkeeper Nathalie Nidetch was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week.
Desmond has been an offensive force for the Pride and this past week had two goals and an assist in a week when Hofstra went 2-0. In the team’s 2-0 win over Drexel, Desmond opened the scoring by converting her third penalty kick of the season and later in the match assisted on Jenn Buoncore’s insurance goal.
Against conference rival William & Mary, Desmond scored what would turn out to be the game-winner in Hofstra’s 3-1 win over the Tribe. She has nine points over her past three games and leads the CAA in goals (8) and points (17).
Nidetch played a key role in helping Northeastern to two wins in two matches this past week.
She recorded her sixth shutout of the season on Thursday in Northeastern’s 1-0 win over Delaware. On Sunday, Nidetch held high-scoring James Madison to one goal in Northeastern’s 2-1 win. This is the second CAA Defensive Player of the Week honor for Nidetch this season.
On the season, the Hewlett native has posted a record of 9-4-1 with five clean sheets and 0.842 goals against average.
