Adelphi Women Top Ranked In Northeast-10

The Adelphi Women’s Soccer Team starts its 2017 season on top as the Panthers were selected as the preseason No. 1 in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.

Adelphi, which garnered 188 points and 10 first-place votes, won the regular season title in 2016 and finishing with a record of 16-4-1 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship for the second straight season. The Brown and Gold were also regular season and NE10 tournament champions in 2015.

American International finished second in the voting as the Yellow Jackets garnered 165 points, including two first place votes. Saint Rose checked was third with 160 points and one first place vote, while defending NE10 champion Stonehill received 144 points and one first place vote. The Skyhawks were followed by Southern Connecticut with 143, Southern New Hampshire (142), and Pace (141).

In total, five of the league’s 15 members received at least one first place vote.

The 2017 soccer season begins on Friday, September 1 for 10 NE10 teams, but Adelphi does not begin its season until September 7, when it hosts the Mercy College Mavericks on Motamed Field at 7 p.m. The 2017 NE10 Championship will begin with quarterfinal round action on Tuesday, October 31, followed by semifinal contests on Friday, November 3. The 2017 NE10 Championship game is scheduled for Sunday, November 5.
