Three was the magic number over the past week for Adelphi soccer, as James Thristino for the men’s team and Kerianne Scorce for the women’s team each scored three times over two matches for their respective teams. Below is a recap of matches played from September 17-23.
Men’s Soccer (4-2-1)
Wednesday, September 19 — Kathy Zolad Stadium, West Haven, CT
University of New Haven 6
Recap: Through the first 78 minutes, Adelphi and New Haven went back-and-forth exchanging the game’s first six goals. In the 78th minute, James Thristino of Port Jefferson Station scored his second of the game to bring the match level at three. However, three New Haven goals over a six-minute period would put the game out of reach for the Panthers. Taylor Kaczynski of Dix Hills also scored for Adelphi.
Saturday, September 22 — Motamed Field
St. Anselm 0
Recap: James Thristino’s fourth goal of the season in the 73rd minute was the difference. The goal broke the ice in a game the Panthers dominated offensively, holding a 25-4 edge in shots. Matt Apicella made two saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season.
Women’s Soccer (6-0-0)
Thursday, September 20 — at Bentley
Recap: Madison Raposo and Kerianne Scorce of Massapequa each scored for Adelphi in the victory, with both tallies coming within three minutes of each other in the opening half. Rookie keeper Sarah Hofmeier, the reigning NE10 Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week, tallied six saves on 13 Bentley shots.
Saturday, September 22 — Duffy Field, Colchester, VT

Recap: Kerianne Scorce scored twice to lead the 18th-ranked Adelphi University women’s soccer team to its fourth straight shutout. The junior forward now has a team-best six goals on the season. Smithtown’s Amanda Rainey scored the third goal for the Panthers. Sarah Hofmeier turned in another clean sheet for the Panthers, making four saves in 90 minutes.
