Two Long Island college soccer teams are ranked nationally in preseason NCAA polls from United Soccer Coaches.

Adelphi University sits tied at No. 5 with two other teams in the USC Men’s Division II poll. The Panthers share the fifth position with Young Harris College in Young Harris, Ga., and Lander University in Greenwood, S.C.

Farmingdale State College sits at No. 21 in the USC Division III Women’s Poll.

Adelphi kicks off the 2019 season on September 5 when they meet Post University at Motamed Field in Garden City.

In 2018, then-first year head coach Gary Book led the Panthers to the team’s second Northeast 10 title. Adelphi also won the regional title with a 2-0 win over LIU Post and went as far as the quarterfinals in the NCAA Tournament.

Farmingdale State’s preseason national ranking comes a year after the Rams finished the 2018 season ranked in the Top-25 for the first time in school history.

FSC finished the season 17-4-3 overall and advanced to the Second Round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship after earning a 1-0 First Round victory over Brandeis University. The win was the first NCAA Tournament victory in program history.

The Rams earned a bid into the NCAA Tournament by defeating Mount Saint Mary in the Skyline Conference Championship on penalty kicks. The Farmingdale State women’s soccer team has now won three consecutive conference titles and 11 of the past 12.

Farmingdale State opens the 2019 season on August 30 against Buffalo State.
