U.S. Soccer DA Girls Playoffs Include Five Local Teams

Five teams from Long Island and the New York Metropolitan area are among 48 teams that have qualified for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s Girls Playoffs that begin June 20.

The U-16/17 age group includes New York City FC and Bay Shore’s FC Fury. Among the teams in the U-15 age group are New York City FC, Long Island SC of Plainview and FC Fury.

For the 2018-19 season, 32 teams qualified for the Academy Playoffs at the U-15 and U-16/17 age groups. The teams were drawn into eight groups of four teams each. The playoffs also include 16 teams at the U-18/19 age group, but no local teams qualified.

At U16/17, New York City sits in Group E and FC Fury is in Group H. In the U-15 age group, New York City FC is in Group A, Long Island SC is in Group B and FC Fury is in Group F

For the second year, elite female players from the nation’s top youth clubs will contest the Academy Playoffs at the SoCal Sports Complex in Oceanside, Calif.

Games begin on June 20 as the U-15 and U-16/17 age groups will play their group stage and quarterfinal matches in Oceanside while the U-18/19 age group will play out the group stage, semifinals and final.

Below is a snapshot of the local teams taking part in the playoffs.

New York City FC U-16/17 (18-7-3, W-L-D)
New York City offensively is led by Centerport’s Bella Sember who has 25 goals on the season. Ashely Blaka of Ridgewood, N.J., is second on the team with 16 goals and Luciana Latino of Norwood, N.J., who has 11 goals.

FC Fury U-16/17 (14-11-3, W-L-D)
FC Fury is led by Samantha Dumont of Queens Village who has 11 goals on the season. Taylor Bryan of Brooklyn has seven goals while Lucy Patton of New York City has six goals.

New York City FC U-15 (19-6-4, W-L-D)
Isabel DiPrima of New City, N.Y., leads New York City with 18 goals. Jessie Maraia of New City is second on the team with 15 goals.

Long Island SC U-15 (12-6-10, W-L-D)
Long Island’s top scorer is Huntington Station’s Gianna Paul who has found the back of the net 26 times this season. Julia DeTurris of Hicksville is second on the team with 13 goals.

FC Fury U-15 (13-10-6, W-L-D)
Hailey Hnis of Wantagh leads FC Fury with 20 goals. Luciana Setteducate of North Bellmore is second on the team with 12 goals.
