The National Women’s Soccer League College Draft is scheduled for January 18 and several players with ties to Long Island are eligible for selection.
Among those eligible are:
Kristin Desmond, Hofstra University (pictured above): A native of East Northport and a graduate of Northport High School, Desmond finished her collegiate career by leading the Pride to the Colonial Athletic Association’s regular season and postseason titles that saw Hofstra also qualify for the NCAA Division I Women’s Tournament. In her senior season, she was named a Third Team United Soccer Coaches All-American.
Shannon Horgan, Clemson University: The Long Beach native played four years for the Tigers and during her senior season played all 19 games scoring twice and adding four assists. She has also spent time with the U.S. National Team program at the U-19 and U-20 age groups.
Katlyn Merino, Molloy College: The Corona, Queens, native closed out her college career this past fall at Molloy. She previously played at Monroe College and Farmingdale State. During her two years at Molloy, she scored 11 goals and had eight assists.
Amanda Rooney, University of Southern California: A member of USC’s 2016 National Championship Team, the Hicksville native closed out her three seasons at Southern California with three goals and two assists in 58 games played. Prior to joining USC, she played for the University of North Carolina.
Madison Vasquez, Siena College: The West Babylon native finished her senior season with five goals. During her collegiate playing days at Siena, Vasquez received numerous honors including being named to the First Team All-MAAC in during her junior season.
