Nine teams will play in the East Conference of United Women’s Soccer this spring and summer with the season set to kick off on Friday, May 11.
Among the nine teams in the conference are the Long Island Rough Riders and New York Surf. Other teams include Connecticut Fusion, Lancaster Inferno, New England Mutiny, New Jersey Copa FC, Rochester Lancers and Western New York Flash.
Among the highlights on the East Conference schedule is a rematch of the 2017 East Final. The defending conference champion Long Island Rough Riders traveling to the scene of their title-winning accomplishment on Saturday, May 12, (4:30 p.m. kickoff).
New Jersey Copa FC will look for redemption for their only home loss in team history at Saint John Vianney High School. Long Island opens their home campaign on Saturday, May 19 (5 p.m. kickoff), hosting the Western New York Flash at Michael J. Tully Park. The top two teams in the final regular season standings will face off in the 2018 East Final for the automatic qualifying spot in the four-team UWS National Championship (July 20-22).
“We’re expecting as exciting a season in the East Conference in 2018 that we had last year,” said Joe Ferrara, Jr., UWS Commissioner. “The race for the East champion this past season came down to the last weekend of the regular season with five teams still in contention for a conference championship.”
