It was a big week for the men’s and women’s soccer programs at LIU Post as players on both teams received weekly honors from the East Coast Conference.
Graduate student Lukas Ostermann was named ECC Men’s Player of the Week, while junior forward Julia Duffy of Oceanside and freshman forward Kendra Oldroyd were named the league’s Women’s Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Ostermann led the men’s team to two victories against Franklin Pierce University (2-1) and East Stroudsburg University (5-3). The second-year Pioneer helped account for both goals during the win against the Ravens, assisting on a goal during the second minute before finding the back of the net a minute later on a penalty kick. Later in the week Ostermann scored twice and assisted on a third goal during the Pioneers victory against East Stroudsburg.
As of September 10, Ostermann leads the conference in goals (5) and points (13) while also tying for the top spot in assists (3).
Duffy and Oldroyd accounted for all the goals in LIU Post’s 3-2 win over Assumption. Duffy netted her first goal in the game’s fourth minute and would score her second in the 50th minute. Oldroyd scored her goal in the 13th minute, which gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
As of September 10, Duffy was tied for the league lead in goals with three and Oldroyd was second with two goals.
Both the women’s and men’s teams open ECC play on Saturday when they host the University of Bridgeport at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. respectively.
