Another spring tournament final featured two Long Island Junior Soccer League teams, with Valley Stream Athletic capturing the Boys U-10 Arch Cup Gold final with a 4-1 win over West Islip Resistance.
The match was played on Saturday, June 3, at Stringham Park in LaGrange.
“It was a very tough game that could have gone either way at one point,” said Stephan Georges, Valley Stream’s coach. “But once we got settled, we found our rhythm.”
Carl Jeune scored twice and his teammates Jaden Bascom and Oskar Chmiel added one apiece for Valley Stream.
West Islip received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died in 2016, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980 that would later expand to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland.
