The Long Island Rough Riders are one of five East Conference teams in contention for postseason play in United Women’s Soccer, but the team needs a win and some help to qualify.
On Saturday, the Rough Riders travel to Lancaster, Pa., to meet Inferno Rush at Manheim Township High School. Kick off is 3 p.m.
Heading into weekend play, Long Island are in a three-way third place tie with New England Mutiny and Rochester Lady Lancers as each team has 14 points. Western NY Flash sits in second with 15 and Connecticut Fusion is in fourth with 13 points.
While there are several scenarios that would allow the Rough Riders to qualify for postseason play, they must first take three points from Inferno Rush, who have clinched the regular season East Conference title.
Since the team’s come-from-behind 2-2 draw against Connecticut Fusion, Long Island has won back-to-back games over New England and Worcester Smiles.
In addition, the Rough Riders have also enjoyed success against Inferno Rush, having won three of the four meetings between the two teams. This includes a 6-1 Long Island win at Rush during the 2017 season.
In other key matches in the final weekend of play, New England will host Connecticut with a match set for Saturday at 3 p.m. at Agawam High School in Agawam, Ma. In addition, Western New York Flash will meet the Rochester Lady Lancers for a 6 p.m. kick off at D’Youville College in Buffalo.
