The final week of the 2018 regular season was a big one for Stony Book’s women’s soccer team, which won both its games to win the America East Conference regular season title.
Two players that played key roles in those victories, senior Julie Johnstonbaugh and sophomore Sofia Manner, both received weekly America East honors. Johnstonbaugh was named the conference Offensive Player of the Week while Manner was named America East Defensive Player of the Week.
Johnstonbaugh had a big week on the pitch for the Stony Brook as she scored overtime game-winning goals in matches against Hartford and UMass Lowell. She finished the regular season with nine goals, tying sophomore Alyssa Frances for the team lead.
The native of Neshanic Station, NJ-native has found the back of the net in the consecutive matches and has five goals over the past five games.
Manner was a roadblock in goal for Stony Brook stopping 13 shots in two matches this past week, including 11 saves in a clean sheet win over UMass Lowell. On the season, the 2017 America East Rookie of the Year had seven clean sheets in the regular season.
