Two Late Goals Propel Hofstra MSOC To CAA Finals

For the second time in a week, Hofstra and James Madison will meet for a Colonial Athletic Association championship.

This time, it’s the men’s teams of the Pride and the Dukes will do battle at Sentara Park. The Pride defeated UNCW 2-1 on Friday while James Madison defeated William & Mary 2-0.

This past Sunday, Hofstra’s women’s soccer team defeated James Madison 2-0 to capture the women’s CAA title and earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Trailing 1-0 after a 32nd-minute goal by the Seahawks Danny Reynolds, the Pride would answer as the clock was about the reach the final 10 minutes of the match. Senior Sean Nealis scored his second of the season in the 80th minute to level the match at one. In the 86th minute, Luke Brown would give the Pride its first lead of the match.

The visitors from Long Island outshot UNCW, 14-8 including 7-3 in the second half while the Seahawks had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.

The CAA title game is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. Hofstra (10-6-4) will be looking for their fifth CAA Championship and will be making their seventh CAA title game appearance.
