Sunday afternoon’s women’s soccer match between Hofstra and host Elon featured lots of shots and both teams exchanging goal streaks. But in the end, it was the Pride leaving Rudd Field with a 4-3 win.
For the second straight match, Hofstra sophomore Sabrina Bryan scored twice and sophomore Lucy Porter again chipped in with a goal to lead the Pride to a much-needed conference win. The match against Elon also marked the 13th one-goal game for Hofstra with the Pride having won seven.
Hofstra came out firing just after the first whistle as Bryan off of a feed from Kings Park’s Jenn Buoncore gave the Pride a 1-0 lead in the first minute. Porter, with an assist from Bryan, would extend the Pride’s lead to two just 15 minutes into the first half.
However, Elon would come roaring back with goals in the 27th, 47th and 49th minutes to take a 3-2 lead.
But the second act of the Bryan and Porter show would commence. Bryan would net her second of the match hitting a shot from about 25 yards in the 63rd minute to bring Hofstra level. Five minutes later, Porter would score off of a rebound from her own shot to put Hofstra in front for good.
Hofstra, which outshot Elon 20-14, improved to 11-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association with its second consecutive victory. Elon slipped to 3-8-3 on the year and 1-5 in the CAA.
Hofstra returns to action next Sunday in its final regular season game, at home against Charleston at 1 p.m. The Pride will celebrate Senior Day prior to kickoff.
