It’s been a strong start to the 2019 season for three Long Island-area Division I men’s soccer teams, which are now receiving national recognition from United Soccer Coaches.
In the September 3 USC national poll, St. John’s received 41 points, Hofstra received 10 points and LIU received 4 points. Each is listed in the poll under “also receiving votes.” The Red Storm’s vote total ranks the team 29th just 25 points outside of the Top-25.
St. John’s started its season with two games in North Carolina and came away with two wins. The Red Storm defeated Appalachian State 2-0 and North Carolina State 1-0 in extra time.
Similar to the Johnnies, Hofstra has also started its season with two clean sheets. Back-to-back 1-0 wins over Fordham and UMBC have the Pride sitting at 2-0.
The Sharks of LIU have also had a positive start to the school’s first season with the combined men’s soccer team playing at the Division I level. Starting the season in Virginia, LIU defeated Old Dominion 2-1 and Virginia Commonwealth 1-0.
