Three Long Island high schools are ranked nationally in preseason polls from United Soccer Coaches.
In the boys poll, Amityville sits at No. 19 while Catholic League powerhouse Chaminade is ranked No. 21. In the girls poll, Valley Stream South comes in at No. 6.
Amityville starts the 2019 season as the New York State Class A champions. After defeating Mepham High School 5-0 for the Long Island title, the Warriors would top Brighton 2-0 in the state semi-final and defeat Somers 2-1 in the title game.
This coming season, Chaminade is eyeing its fifth consecutive New York State CHSAA title. In 2018, the Flyers defeated Regis 1-0 to win its fourth straight state crown.
On the girls side, Valley Stream South also begins the 2019 campaign as defending state champions. Ranked No. 18 at the start of the 2018 playoffs, the Lady Falcons improbable run to the Class A title included wins over of Nassau County rivals Island Trees, No. 2 South Side, Mepham, Wantagh and MacArthur for the Nassau Class A title.
In the Long Island Championship game, Valley Stream South would top Islip 1-0. The season would end with a 1-0 overtime win over Jamesville-DeWitt in the state title game.
