On Sunday, Stony Brook freshman Alyssa Francese scored a hat-trick in leading the Women’s Soccer Team to a 6-0 win over Wagner.

The next day, the Yorktown Heights native was named the America East women’s soccer Rookie of the Week. The three goals scored vs. Wagner were the first of Francese’s collegiate career and the hat-trick was the first by an America East women’s soccer player since October 2014 when Hartford’s Sidney Spremullo scored three goals.

She tallied three goals within 15 minutes of each other in the second half of the game. The first came at 52:31, heading the ball into the bottom of the net off a corner kick to make it 2-0 Seawolves. The freshman made it 3-0 at 55:14, blasting a shot into the bottom right corner after making a run down the left wing. Her third score came at 67:04, finding the back of the net from close range to complete the hat-trick.

A graduate of Yorktown High School, Francese served as team captain in her junior and senior seasons. She finished her high school career with 96 goals and 35 assists and was named First-Team All-State as a senior.
