The Stony Brook Hawks would score only once, but one goal was all it needed to defeat Coliseum Arsenal of Utica 1-0 and win the Boys U-11 Arch Cup Gold title.
The matchup between teams from the Long Island Junior Soccer League and Central New York Youth Soccer League was played June 1 at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y.
Myles Weber scored the game’s only goal while Stony Brook goalkeeper Ryan Anderson recorded the clean sheet.
“We used the width of the field very well and that led to our goal,” said Dan Balzan, Stony Brook’s coach.
Stony Brook also received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award, as determined by the game officials. The award’s namesake founded the Long Island Junior Soccer League’s Sportsmanship Program in 1980.
