Following a happy weekend at home, Stony Brook’s women’s soccer team is off to Happy Valley.
The America East champion Seawolves are taking their automatic berth to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament and heading to Pennsylvania to face No. 4 Penn State in the First Round. Game time Friday is 6 p.m.
This is the second time in the past three seasons that Stony Brook and Penn State have met in the tournament.
“We are really excited to be playing soccer now,” said Tobias Bischof, Stony Brook’s head coach. “Winning a championship was awesome. We are looking forward to it. It will be a tough game. Penn State is one of the powerhouse teams in the nation”
The Seawolves have earned their third trip to the NCAA Tournament in the Division I era, joining the 2012 and 2017 squads. This will also be the third consecutive Big Ten foe that Stony Brook will face. The team played Maryland in 2012 and Penn State in 2017.
Penn State received an automatic bid to the tournament following its 2-1 extra-time win over Michigan to capture the Big Ten title. The Nittany Lions begin the NCAAs with a record of 15-6-1 and closed the season out with nine straight wins.
