Stony Brook is hitting the road to Central Pennsylvania as the Seawolves will meet perennial national powerhouse Penn State on Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.

The 2017 America East Women’s Soccer Champions will play in the College Cup for only the second time in school history following their 2-1 win at home over Vermont. The first-round matchup between Stony Brook and Penn State will be the first between the two programs. Kickoff from Jeffrey Field will be at 7:30 p.m.

Stony Brook took a somewhat circuitous route to the America East title. The Seawolves defeated No. 4 Hartford 2-0 in the opening round of the conference tournament. In the semi-finals, Stony Brook took down top seed University of New Hampshire 1-0 before returning home to host the finals.

Penn State, ranked No. 15 nationally, earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, its 23rd consecutive appearance. The Nittany Lions earned an automatic bid after winning the Big Ten Tournament in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Northwestern.
