Another St. John’s women’s soccer alumna is turning pro as Samie Scaffidi has signed with Switzerland’s FF Lugano 1976.

A native of Silver Spring, Md., Scaffidi played for head coach Ian Stone from 2015 to 2018. She made 41 starts and had 63 total appearances in four seasons and finished her collegiate career with seven goals and 11 assists.

“I’m grateful for all the help my coaches have given me both as a player and a person,” Scaffidi said. “I’m excited about this opportunity to play for FF Lugano and I am ready to take on this next chapter in my life.”

FF Lugano plays in a 14,500-seat stadium in the town of Lugano, Switzerland. The team is currently in the National League A, the highest division of the Swiss championship.

Among the other former St. John’s players currently in the professional ranks are Rachel Daly of the NWSL’s Houston Dash, and Shea Connors, who signed her first professional contract in 2018 with Iceland’s Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur. In March, Connors signed to play professionally in Australia.
