St. John’s men’s soccer center back Luke Hansen has been named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Red Storm to consecutive clean sheet victories to start the season.

A native of West Windsor, N.J., Hansen has played 196 minutes this season, which is more than his total minutes played during the 2018 season.

He played 90 minutes in St. John’s 2-0 season-opening win over Appalachian State. Two days later, Hansen logged 106 minutes as the Red Storm defeated North Carolina State 1-0 in extra time.

The Big East honor is the first of his collegiate career.

Following its two matches in North Carolina, the Red Storm will open the home portion of its schedule on Friday against Manhattan. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
