St. John’s MSOC Upset Big East Rivals Georgetown

Needing three points to improve its position in the Big East conference standings, the St. John’s men’s soccer team came up with a big performance against nationally-ranked Georgetown.

Skage Simonsen’s goal in the 44th minute would prove to be the game-winner as the Red Storm topped No. 24 Georgetown 1-0. The match between the Big East rivals was played Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field in the nation’s capital.

With the win, St. John’s improved to 7-6-3 overall and 3-2-3 in the Big East. The team also clinched a spot in the conference tournament.

Goalkeeper Lenny Wilson recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season, making seven saves on the afternoon.  Five of the senior’s saves came in the second half.

St. John’s will close out the regular season when they host Providence on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
