St. John’s redshirt junior Zsani Kajan has been unanimously selected to the women’s soccer preseason All-Big East Team.
The honor is the latest for the native of Budapest, Hungary. In 2018, Kajan was an All-Big East First Team selection and a United Soccer Coaches Division I All-East Region Third Team honoree. In 19 appearances during the 2018 season — all starts — Kajan had 11 goals and 2 assists.
Her 11 goals were tied for second-most in the conference and ranked in the top-30 nationally at the conclusion of the regular season. Kajan scored four game-winning goals for St. John’s in 2018 and notched her first collegiate hat trick in a 5-1 win over Stony Brook.
In addition, the Big East also announced the conference’s preseason coaches poll. St. John’s is ranked tied for sixth with Villanova. Georgetown, which has won three consecutive Big East titles, is ranked No. 1 with Butler and Providence rounding out the top three.
St. John’s will begin the 2019 season on Aug. 22 when the team travels to Harrisonburg, Va., for a matchup with Cincinnati as part of the Fairfield Inn by Marriot JMU Invitational. The Johnnies will play their home opener on Aug. 30 against Yale.
