Originally scheduled for the team’s usual home pitch of Yurcak Field, Sky Blue is shifting the match to the home of the New York Red Bulls. The NWSL side recently polled fans who said they would support a move for the match.
“This is a big moment for our club, our players and fans,” said Alyse LaHue, Sky Blue Interim General Manager. “We asked our fans if they would support this idea and they very definitively said yes. We’re always listening to and looking for ideas that enhance the fan experience as we push this club forward.”
The match will feature several players who recently participated in the 2019 World Cup in France. Among them are Americans Carli Lloyd of Sky Blue and her U.S. teammates Megan Rapinoe and Allie Long of Reign FC. Other World Cup participants including Sky Blue’s goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan of Canada, defender Estelle Johnson of Cameroon and six Reign FC players are expected to play in the match.
“We’re beyond excited that we have to move the game to Red Bull Arena because fan interest is so high,” said Lloyd. “This will be a great experience for my teammates and another opportunity for Sky Blue to continue building toward a successful and sustainable future.”
Marc de Grandpre, general manager of the Red Bulls, said hosting an NWSL match at Red Bull area is a great way to support Sky Blue and celebrate the local soccer community.
Tickets for the August 18th match against Reign FC will go on sale Tuesday, August 6th at 12 p.m. Sky Blue will honor all prior ticket sales and will be reaching out to ticket-purchasers with more information about seating location and game details.
