Still in search of its first win of the season, Sky Blue FC is out west to take on Reign FC. Kickoff Saturday at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash., is 4 p.m.
Sky Blue (0-3-2, 2 pts.) sits in eighth place in the National Women’s Soccer League standings, one spot below Reign FC (0-1-3, 3 points). SBFC are 4-7-5 all-time against Reign FC.
“(Saturday) is a big game for us. We had a tough loss last weekend, but we had a great week of training,” said Sarah Killion, Sky Blue’s captain. “This team continues to bounce back and we continue to apply what we have learned. We are hungry for our first win of the season.”
Imani Dorsey and Raquel Rodriguez have been a big threat on the attack as both scored their first goals of the season on May 11 in the team’s 3-2 loss to the Washington Spirit.
Savannah McCaskill has also put in strong performances recently. Last week’s match against Washington was her first start of the season. She had three shots on goal, created three chances and had an assist.
“We’re ready for (Saturday’s) match. It’s been a good week of training so far, and we just want to keep that energy going,” said Dorsey. “We have really focused on being aggressive on defense and offense. And I think that will help us find success against the Reign. I’m ready to get out there.”
Coming off of a bye week, Reign FC was last on the pitch May 4th in Washington where it played to a scoreless draw with the Spirit.
With the FIFA Women’s World Cup approaching, Reign FC will be missing eight players because of international duty. Megan Rapinoe, USA; Allie Long, USA; Jodie Taylor, England; Rumi Utsugi, Japan; Celia Jimenez Delgado, Spain; Lydia Williams, Australia; Steph Catley, Australia; and Elise Kellond-Knight, Australia
After Saturday’s matchup with Reign FC, Sky Blue FC will be back at home at Yurcak Field to take on Portland Thorns FC on May 25 at 6 p.m. ET for a Memorial Day Weekend fixture.
