Despite an early goal from Raquel Rodriguez, Sky Blue FC could not hold the lead and fell to Reign FC 2-1 Saturday in Tacoma.

In the 10th minute, Rodriguez scored her second goal of the season to give the visitors the early lead. A giveaway by Reign FC put the ball at the feet of Savannah McCaskill. She slipped the ball to Sarah Killion who sent a cross at the far-left post to Rodriguez who beat keeper Michelle Betos.

Just three minutes later, the home side would level the match. Reign FC’s Theresa Nielsen sent a corner into traffic that was headed in. After review, the official scoring decision was an own goal by Julie James.

With possession going back and forth in the second half and fewer chances for Sky Blue on goal, Reign was able to capitalize in the 78th minute. Shea Groom sent in a cross that was deflected off Paige Monaghan’s foot towards Sky Blue keeper Didi Haracic who made a diving save. But Jodie Taylor was in the right spot to put away the rebound to give Reign the lead.

Sky Blue is back home to face the Portland Thorns on Saturday, May 25, (6 p.m. ET) at Yurcak Field.
