Skage Simonsen’s goal in the 100th minute gave St. John’s a 1-0 road win over Temple Friday night in men’s soccer action.

In the extra session, the Red Storm had two opportunities to score off corner kicks but were unable to convert. On a third corner kick in overtime, Matt Forster hit a left-footed in-swinger to the near post where Simonsen headed it past Temple keeper Simon Lefebvre for the game-winner.

Simonsen’s goal was the second time over the past three matches that a freshman scored a game-winner in overtime. Previously, Tani Oluwaseyi scored an overtime goal to give St. John’s a win over Fairfield.

Senior keeper Lenny Wilson, a transfer from Hartwick College, recorded his 17th career clean sheet and his first as a member of the Red Storm. The senior from Aberdeen, Scotland, turned aside all three Temple shots that found their target.

The game’s stats sheet was indicative of the one-goal game. Temple outshot St. John’s 13-11, but the Red Storm finished ahead with shots on goal, 6-3. The Red Storm also lead in corner kicks, 10-9.

The Red Storm returns to action on Tuesday, playing host to Loyola Maryland at 7 p.m.
