As the St. Joseph’s College women’s soccer team kicks off the 2019 season, they do so ranked fifth in the Skyline Conference preseason coaches poll. The Golden Eagles are looking to following 2018 when the team had a 7-2 conference record and were 10-7 overall. St. Joe’s is led first-year head coach Emily Morphitis.
Returners: The Golden Eagles this season are led by 11 returning players, including two-time All-Conference forwards Christina Gagliardi of Ronkonkoma and Carly Credidio of Farmingville. The duo combined for 24 goals and 11 assists a year ago. Other key returnees include senior midfielders Shannon Condron of Ridge and Jessica Passabile of Lindenhurst along with senior defenders Karissa Rutigliano of Coram and Holbrook’s Jaclyn O’Shaughnessy. Goalkeeper Juliana Cintron-Leonardo of Riverhead, also a senior, will be back between the pipes and a year ago held opponents to a 1.29 goals-against average and had eight clean sheets.
Newcomers: Seven new faces join St. Joseph’s including transfers Alysha Annarella of Port Jefferson Station, Farmingville’s Fallon Schmidt and Wantagh’s Julia Fazio. Also seeking to make an immediate impact are freshmen Nicole Trude of Rocky Point, Jemma Spitaleri of East Moriches, Selden’s Emily Ascoli and Miller Place’s Abbey Curcio.
When they begin: The Golden Eagles start the 2019 season Sunday, September 1 when they host New Jersey City University at Danzi Stadium at 12 p.m. SJC makes a quick return home on September 3rd and will face Brooklyn College at 7 p.m.
