Seaford’s Pearse Scores Twice To Lead CCSU To Playoff Win

Danielle Pearse scored twice in CCSU's win over FDU.

Senior Danielle Pearse refuses to go quietly.

The Seaford native now in her fourth year at Central Connecticut State scored both goals on Friday as the Blue Devils defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 2-1.

The win moves CCSU into the Northeast Conference title game on Sunday at CCSU Soccer Field. Kick off is 1 p.m. They will play St. Francis, which defeated Mount Saint Mary 4-0 in the other Northeast Conference semi-final.

Central Connecticut would grab the lead in the 55th minute. Senior Charlotte Maurer won the ball in midfield and sent a pass down the right side. There, sophomore Jenna Rae Covello controlled the pass and sent a low cross in front of the net where Pearse flicked it past FDU keeper Amanda Fitzgerald.

The Blue Devils would maintain its one-goal advantage until the 69th minute. FDU’s Jackson Bennett hit a low shot past CCSU keeper Ashley Cavanaugh to level the score at one.

Pearse and Covello would again combine their efforts to give Central Connecticut the lead for good. Again securing a pass down the right side, Covello’s cross in front of the net would find the Seaford native who would finish for her second of the match.

Central Connecticut finished the game with a 13-6 edge in shots, while each team had three corner kicks. Cavanaugh finished with four saves for the Blue Devils and Fitzgerald made five stops for FDU.
