The Week 2 America East Conference weekly awards have a distinct Long Island feel as East Islip’s Kayla Saager and two Stony Brook Seawolves are among the honorees.

A senior forward at Binghamton, Saager was named the Conference Player of the Week. It’s her first honor of the season and the fourth of her two-year career with the Bearcats.

Saager, the 2017 America East Striker of the Year, had two goals during the past week as Binghamton went 1-1. She scored the team’s lone goal in its 2-1 loss at Army on Friday and then struck for the game-winning goal in the Bearcats’ 1-0 victory over Iona on Sunday. She leads the team with three goals and eight points in four games.

It was a big week for Manner and her Stony Brook teammates as they start the season with six straight matches on the road. During the week the Helsinki, Finland-native stopped eight of nine shots she faced against No. 20 Notre Dame and Seton Hall.

The Seawolves lost to the Fighting Irish 1-0 in overtime and defeated the Pirates 1-0. This is Manner’s first career Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Brenden scored her first career goal, which proved to be the game-winner in Stony Brook’s 1-0 win over Seton Hall. A native of Oslo, Norway, this is her first Player of the Week Award.
