Ronald Mataritta remains with New York City FC, at least for now.
Published reports on Wednesday out of Mataritta’s native Costa Rica indicating that NYCFC’s defensive MVP was on the verge of a signing a contract with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund ahead of a transfer valued at $4 million.
However, that report appears to be at best premature if not totally false.

On Thursday, CBS Sports’ Glenn Crooks reported that the initial report of Mataritta’s transfer were not true. Crooks wrote:
“There is no signature with Dortmund. There have been no discussions with Dortmund. Mataritta’s agent has indicated there is interest in Germany, France, Portugal and Turkey, but the City plan is to keep him in the Bronx. According to NYCFC Nation, City currently holds Mataritta’s international transfer certificate, meaning they have the final say on any transfer.”
It’s been a busy offseason so far for New York City FC. The team recently signed USL Golden Boot winner Sean Okoli, announced the retirement of defender Andoni Iraola and is looking to move Mix Diskerud.
There’s likely more to the Mataritta story, so stay tuned.
