Rough Riders Recap: Women Top NJ Copa, Men Fall to Ocean City

The following is a recap of matches featuring the Long Island Rough Riders men’s and women’s teams from their respective games played on Wednesday, May 22.

The Ocean City Nor’easters handed the Long Island Rough Riders its first defeat, 3-1, in USL League 2 action.

Deri Corfe scored twice with goals in the 2nd minute and 44th minute. Claudio Repetto also scored for Ocean City when he converted from the penalty spot in the 12th minute.

Manu Ferriol scored Long Island’s lone goal from the spot in the 90th minute before being sent off in stoppage time.

The Rough Riders hit the road for the first time in 2019 with a visit to FA Euro New York on May 28. Kickoff is 8:30 p.m. from Poly Prep.

Grace Hawkins scored for the third consecutive game as the Long Island Rough Riders women’s team defeated New Jersey Copa FC 2-0 at St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, N.J.

Long Island improves to 2-2-0 with the victory, while NJ Copa FC drops to 1-2-0 in United Women’s Soccer.

Hawkins opened the scoring in the 26th minute when she ripped a shot from just outside the 18 and into the top right corner. Alexa Schneider would score in the 82nd minute to double Long Island’s lead.

The Rough Riders will close out a three-game stretch of away matches with its June 2 meeting with the Rochester Lancers. Kickoff is 2 p.m. from Aquinas Institute of Rochester.
