Rough Riders Recap: Men Take Four Points, Women Top Rochester

The following is a recap of matches featuring the Long Island Rough Riders men’s and women’s teams from their respective games played on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2.


In back-to-back weekend games, the Rough Riders men’s team took four out of six points.

On Saturday, Long Island defeated the New York Red Bulls U-23 in a 2-1 comeback win. After conceding a goal in the 14th minute, Long Island bounced back with goals from Sean Zawadski in the 54th minute and the game-winner from Anthony Alfonso in the 87th minute.

On Sunday, the Rough Riders and FA Euro played to a 2-2 draw after the match was stopped for inclement weather in the 74th minute. Alexander Dexter and Renato Kauzlaric scored for Long Island.

Following the weekend, Long Island improves to 3-1-1 (10 points), good for second place in the USL League 2 Eastern Conference Mid Atlantic standings, trailing unbeaten Reading United AC (4-0-0, 12 points.)

The Rough Riders return to action when they take on Reading United AC on June 5. Kickoff is 8 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.


Kerianne Scorce scored twice to lead the Long Island Rough Riders women’s team to a 2-0 win over the Rochester Lancers on June 2 at Aquinas Institute in Rochester.

Long Island improves to 3-2-0 with the victory in United Women’s Soccer, while Rochester drops to 1-2-1.

The Rough Riders took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute on Scorce’s first goal of the season. She would get her brace in the 59th minute off a cross from Kayla Saager.

The victory was the second consecutive clean sheet for the Rough Riders, who are currently second in the United Women’s Soccer East Conference standings with nine points. Connecticut Fusion (3-0-1) lead the table with 10 points.

Long Island’s next game is against Worcester Smiles (0-4-0) on June 5. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
