Rough Riders Recap: Men Go 2-0, Women Get First Win

The following is a recap of matches featuring the Long Island Rough Riders men’s and women’s teams from their respective games played on Wednesday, May 15.

Men

The Rough Riders moved to 2-0 in USL League 2 with a 2-0 win over Lehigh Valley United at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Long Island took the lead in the 25th minute as Alexander Dexter scored off an assist by Manu Ferriol. Dexter would get his brace 13 minutes later as he converted off of a feed from Noah Hutchins. The win was also the second consecutive clean sheet for the Rough Riders.

Long Island will meet the Ocean City Nor’easters at Hofstra on Wednesday, May 22. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Women

Morgan Santoro had a goal and an assist to lead Long Island to a 3-1 win over New Jersey Copa FC in United Women’s Soccer action. The Rough Riders are now 1-1 on the season.

Grace Hawkins opened the scoring in the 23rd minute to give Long Island a 1-0 lead. However, New Jersey bounced back quickly with a goal two minutes later to even the match.

Three minutes after entering the match as a second-half substitute, Santoro would score in the 56th minute gave the Rough Riders the lead. In the 68th minute, Salma Tarik would give Long Island a two-goal cushion off an assist from Santoro.

Long Island will hit the road for the first time this season to face the New England Mutiny on Saturday, May 18. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
