The roster for the Long Island Rough Riders women’s team continues to expand as six additional players have been signed for the upcoming United Women’s Soccer season.
Now in the fold for head coach Karim Diallo’s team are Sabrina Blaskovic, Mia Rose Daly, Shannon Gray, Kerianne Scorce, Sage Dieterle and Brianna Doran.
Blaskovic, a defender/midfielder from Whitestone, logged 290 minutes in five matches in 2018 with the Rough Riders. She was limited to six matches (two starts) her junior season at Adelphi University due to an injury.
“Sabrina was part of our defensive rotation last year but was in and out of the lineup because of an injury,” said Diallo. “She was one of the youngest players on the team, so I believe having that one UWS season under her belt will help her maturation this year.”
Joining Blaskovic again this summer is her Adelphi teammate Scorce. A native of Massapequa, the forward had a goal and an assist in the 3-1 win against New York Surf on June 6 and made three appearances for Long Island in 2018. Scorce led Adelphi with 10 goals and added three assists last fall.
“Kerianne is another unselfish player,” Diallo said. “Naturally she’s a center forward but did what was needed for the team when her name was called. She gets on the field and does her job; she’s great to have on the team.”
Daly, a rising sophomore defender who hails from Hawaii, made 18 appearances (16 starts) for LIU Brooklyn this past fall.
“Mia is a good defender with good attacking instincts,” Diallo said. “She is disciplined and will give us more depth and versatility on defense.”
Gray of Massachusetts is a rising junior goalkeeper at Colby College in Maine. She was second in the conference with 76 saves in 14 games (seven starts) this past fall while recording a .844 save percentage.
“Shannon will be competing with veteran Melissa Guglielmo for the starting goalkeeper position,” Diallo said. “She is a good shot stopper with good distribution skills.”
Dieterle, a graduate of Adelphi University from Connecticut, played in 28 games with 16 starts for the Panthers from 2015-17. The forward scored two goals and added an assist in 12 games during her senior season.
“Sage is a hard-working and tenacious player who I believe will add to our overall team depth,” said Diallo. “She joined us for a couple of training sessions toward the end of last season and she was a joy to have around.”
Doran of Lindenhurst is a versatile defender/midfielder from Hofstra University. She had 25 appearances with 11 starts for the Pride but missed the 2018 campaign due to an injury.
“It might take Brianna a little time to get into a rhythm but I have no doubt in my mind her work rate will help her catch up because she is dedicated to ending her collegiate career on a high note,” Diallo said.
The Rough Riders open their 2019 UWS campaign against the Connecticut Fusion on Saturday, May 11. Kickoff is 5:30 p.m. from Hofstra University Soccer Stadium.
